Our tip for driving around Norwich is to avoid travelling in and out of the city at peak rush hour between 7-9am and 4pm-6pm.

If you are heading to the coast and want to avoid the city all together, take the new Broadland Northway dual carriageway linking the south and north of the city.

The centre of Norwich is just under 3.9 miles drive from Norwich Airport, a trip of around 20min. You leave the airport parking and take the A140, Holt Road south following signs into the city centre.  

Norwich is a historic cathedral city with its own individual character. It’s filled with medieval buildings, narrow, cobbled streets, independent shops, art galleries and museums, great restaurants and boutique hotels so it has plenty to offer visitors on a short break or longer stay. While you are here why not take time to relax on a boat along one of the city’s waterways or catch a soccer game at Norwich City Football Club?

Norwich is within easy reach of some of East Anglia’s most popular destinations including the world-renowned university city of Cambridge which is just 1hr 30min away.

One of the best day trips by car from Norwich is a scenic 90-mile round trip to the North Norfolk Coast. Stop off at Holkham Hall and estate, the imposing 18th century home of Lord Leicester and an architectural delight surrounded by stunning parkland alongside vast golden sands. Explore small towns like Burnham Market and make a detour to the small seaside village of Cley with its windmill in the marshes or even swap the car for a boat trip out to see the seals off Morston Quay.

Head east from Norwich to explore a completely different landscape on a drive around the Norfolk Broads National Park. The UK’s largest protected wetlands consist of a network of navigable rivers and lakes known as the Broads. Your driving tour can circumnavigate more than 125 miles of waterways, an area filled with spectacular wildlife and plants.
